In May 2024, U.S. News ranked Nebraska #5 in the nation for energy, including #2 for power grid reliability and #6 for lowest-price electricity.

Nebraska is the only state in America served 100% by public power. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) works closely with the state’s public power districts to meet the needs of companies locating, expanding, and operating in Nebraska. This partnership includes exploring innovative projects to ensure the state has plentiful energy available well into the future.

Electrical generation is key to growing Nebraska’s economy. Further, a next generation nuclear plant will provide a tremendous economic impact to any community where it’s located. As a result, this siting study was a good investment by the State of Nebraska and is an important first step to make wise decisions about where to host this technology in the future.
