Economic Development

The availability of clean, dependable, and affordable energy helps power the state’s growing economy.

In May 2025, U.S. News ranked Nebraska #3 in the nation for energy, including #3 for power grid reliability and #6 for lowest-price electricity.

Nebraska is the only state in America served 100% by public power. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) works closely with the state’s public power districts to meet the needs of companies locating, expanding, and operating in Nebraska. This partnership includes exploring innovative projects to ensure the state has plentiful energy available well into the future.
